Research Shows Reasons Why Brits Don’t Move Abroad

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Studies have indicated beforehand the reasons why Brits sell up and move overseas but latest research has revealed the ins and outs of why the British don’t move abroad.

A survey by Aviva UK Health has shown the top 10 motives for not relocating to a foreign country. The top instigators for families to stay put were British sense of humour, favourite TV shows and the nation’s food and drink.

The main finding was leaving friends and family, which was the ultimate obstacle to emigration with almost 75% of people wary of change.

The second core reason was British culture and its importance on our daily lives; 43% of those surveyed confessed they would miss their favourite TV show.

And the third essential motive of remaining living in the UK was the British sense of humour, which ranked highly with 39% of interviewees fearful of missing out on national wit.

Shortly following the results with 38% was the craving for British food and drink such as the infamous English Breakfast grub. This corresponds with news that Cheryl Cole flew out British tea bags for her stay in Los Angeles during her stint on America’s X Factor, to make it feel more homely.

In fifth place with 34% was that Brits would miss the NHS if they moved abroad.

The study, called “semi-gration”, tracked the UK population’s appetite and motivations for moving abroad.

The remaining reasons to complete the top 10 for staying put in Britain were: the English language (34%); own town/city (29%); own house (26%); sport (15%) and nightlife (10%).

Have a Better Quality of Life Abroad

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Families who move out of Britain and go to set up life abroad have a better quality of life, according to a new survey.

The findings show that of those who move away, the parents believe their children are enjoying ‘the good life’, with better schools, cheaper lifestyles and safer security.

Belgium ranked as the top place to have the best chance of a happy family, whereas Britain was ranked at the bottom of the table by foreign families living in this country.

It was argued Britain is ‘one of the most expensive’ places to raise a child and those surveyed think their offspring are ‘less safe’ than in their ‘home’ country.

These families also believe that their children live a ‘less active’ lifestyle, spending less time outdoors, playing fewer sport and spending more time watching television.

More than 4,100 people living in 100 countries participated in the poll, by HSBC bank.

They were asked questions all about their lifestyle, with subjects ranging from the cost of childcare, the amount of junk food children ate and whether they missed their ‘home’ friends.

Overall, parents living in Britain said that they did not think their children’s quality of life had improved.

So why not give your child a better start in childhood, pack up and move overseas with Robinsons International Removals.

Australians Move House More Often

Friday, December 17th, 2010

According the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ quarterly social trends report released yesterday, people are moving house more often.

The figures painted the portrait of an increasingly mobile population across Australia with the desire for a bigger or better home, or a recent dwelling purchase, generally the most common reasons for moving.

Every second married couple with children had moved in the five years to 2007-08 and young people with no children were the most likely to find a new home (90 per cent) citing forming new relationships, as the reason for making a move.

45 per cent of families with dependent children moved within a five-year period compared to 17 per cent of older households without children.

For the small proportion of people who had a desire to move in the next 12 months, but considered it unlikely to happen, financial reasons were the most commonly reported barrier.
