Robinsons Olympic Help Guide: Moving Household Goods

Over the course of the next few months we are offering an insightful Robinsons Olympic Help guide to all tenants, landlords and homeowners.

In the first post we discussed how the Games will affect immigration and in the second entry we suggested tips on housing and accommodation. Today, we are examining how the Olympics will affect the logistical challenge for household goods moving operations.
It is certain that the sporting event will present difficulties with regards to home removals in London because a number of ‘Olympic Traffic Lanes’ have been identified on main arterial roads serving the Capital and within key areas.
It is not yet known how many lanes will be introduced but it will definitely have a knock-on effect on delivery and collection times throughout London for removals vans. It is reported though that they constitute 1% of the public roads of the 109 mile Olympic Route Network (ORN).
The Lanes will be used by officials and 18,000 athletes to get to and from the Olympics site in record times. What does it mean? Well parking is going to be affected as normal bays in which people park in will be restricted for security purposes and to reduce congestion. What is more, parking bays will be suspended for collections and deliveries dependent on property locations.
As specialists in overseas removals, we have offices in Beijing and Sydney that have described how the Olympics in the year 2000 were a ‘bit of a nightmare’ on logistics. They detailed the impact how main roads were blocked for weeks before the event and how traffic was gridlocked. Deliveries were challenging and moving consultants faced serious delays.
Robinsons International Removals has to assume the effect in London this year will be much worse!

Robinsons Olympic Help Guide: Housing and Accommodation

Friday, January 20th, 2012

british bulldogOver the course of the next few months we are offering an insightful Robinsons Olympic Help guide to all tenants, landlords and homeowners.

The first post last week discussed how the Games will affect immigration but today’s entry is in relation to housing and accommodation.

It is expected that demand for housing in London during the period of June to September will rise and therefore proprietors are seeking opportunities to take advantage of the occasion.

Landlords are looking to capitalise on the demand by increasing rental costs, so as people flock to the UK to celebrate the sporting event they may wish to use our expert luggage shipping services.

A top tip from Robinsons for overseas visitors is to be careful when booking accommodation online because there have been a number of cases of fraud reported.

Instances have occurred in which foreigners have paid deposits on properties listed on sites that do not actually exist. So be sure when flying all your belongings over for the summer that the housing is scam-free.

As a specialist international shipping company, we have offices in Beijing and Sydney that have detailed how occupancy of rented accommodation dropped to below 50% capacity after the Olympics took place there.

And our fellow offices have reported how prices for services accommodation and hotel rooms tripled in the lead up to and during the Games.

Robinsons overseas removals can help you move all your possessions over to Britain efficiently and quickly. If you want to stay in the UK for the duration of the Olympics, make sure you have all your favourite items to avoid being homesick.

Robinsons Olympic Help Guide: Immigration

Friday, January 13th, 2012

hand holding a gold medalThe 2012 London Olympics is only six months away but Robinsons International has already started planning in preparation.

Anyone moving into or out of the London area around the same time as the Games needs to consider the impact it will have because the experiences of our partner offices in two other recent Olympic sites, Sydney and Beijing, suggest that the effect will be huge.

But rest assured, as experts in international removals we can still help you have a stress-free removal which is why over the course of the next few months we are offering this insightful Robinsons Olympic Help guide.

The first entry in the beneficial series is in relation to immigration. Are you moving from a foreign country to the UK in between the dates 27th July to 9th Sept and need a visa? A top tip is to use Robinsons overseas removals and apply for a visa early!

As all eyes will be on London for the sporting event and there is no doubt that UK immigration and the UK Border Agency will suffer severe pressures to handle the numbers and security implications.

Things will not be running as normal in Britain during the summer period however a special visa category has been created for athletes and officials travelling the UK for the Games and given the sheer volume of travellers predicted, delays are realistically expected.

Robinsons urge everyone to require a visa well in advance. In Beijing and Sydney, lead times for visa approvals were extended due to the bulk of applications but no official announcement has yet to be given on how resources will be increased to cope with the quantities.

Stay tuned for Robinsons UK international movers next post on how the Olympic Games will affect housing and accommodation…
