Building Work On Coronation Street’s New Home Started

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

The long-running ITV soap Coronation Street is relocating its studio base to MediaCityUK, in Salford Quays in Manchester and building work has already started.

The new production complex has already begun building work with a 7.7 acre site across from the main BBC studios.

Located alongside the Imperial War Museum North, it will be a bespoke stand-alone production and studio centre for Coronation Street and work is expected to be completed by spring 2013.

William Roache, one of the soap’s stars who plays character Ken Barlow, said of the commercial removals: “It’s over fifty years since I first walked on to a Coronation Street set, and now I’m here with Michelle [Keegan], starting the build of our new home – the one that will take us well in to this century, and it feels fantastic.”

Kevin Lygo, Managing director at ITV Studios, said: “Our move to MediaCityUK is an historic one that will continue our commitment to the North, ensuring our longevity as the major programme maker in the region and make us a crucial part of Europe’s biggest media population.  It is a very exciting time.”

Coronation Street To Relocate Filming Premises: Commercial Removals

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

A T.V soap has had its filming premises move approved by the local authority.

Coronation Street had plans to relocate the set to MediaCityUK at Salford Quays from its current location at Granada Studios, near Deansgate in Manchester.

But the proposed shift of ITV’s filming base was objected by the bread band Hovis, which has headquarters adjacent to Corrie’s new Trafford Wharf site, arguing that they feared noise and traffic.

However, the move has now been given the green light and approved at Trafford Council’s Planning Development Control Committee meeting.

The new base is expected to be ready by late 2012 with new production facilities aimed to equip the show for the demands of future broadcasting developments.
Councillor Michael Whetton is quoted as saying: “I thought the objection would be from EastEnders. I welcome this development, it is not just good to see Coronation Street coming to Trafford, but it is good to see ITV get involved in some big investment and good to see that happening in our borough.

“This will not just be used for Coronation Street but the big stages being constructed will be used for some major productions.”

Britain’s Got Talent Star Moves Out Of Caravan And Into First Home

Friday, May 13th, 2011

Michael Collings performs Fast Cars on Britain's Got Talent (ITV)We all know how life-changing reality shows can be and how much of an impact they can have on an everyday, normal person’s being.

Just take hit examples Susan Boyle and Chantelle Houghton and it is no surprise that by appearing on a television show you can be catapulted into fame and fortune.

And that is exactly the case with Britain’s Got Talent star Michael Collings.

If you are unaware who the 19-year old lad is, he auditioned for the ITV programme and was shot to fame as a talented singer after performing Tracey Chapman’s Fast Car during the show’s opening episode.

The young father has since received tons of media coverage and is the hot favourite to win the series; and due to this he is moving out of the caravan he shared with his girlfriend and new-born son and instead now living in their very own two-bedroom council flat home.

The upcoming star wowed the judges with his version of the infamous song, despite his dishevelled appearance in an orange hoodie and sweat pants and helped send the track to the top of the iTunes charts after he performed it.

He captured audience’s hearts with his life story about living on a trailer park, getting his girlfriend pregnant by accident and proposing to her in a Chinese buffet.

But the promising singer says he will buy a house if he wins the show but until then he is moving in with his new family.

The teenager had previously described content for his ‘posh’ caravan, calling the caravan park ‘classy’.

The instant star has been hailed as the next Susan Boyle and Judge David Hasselhoff told him: “Britain’s got talent and you are it.” Since he covered the song his video has been viewed 400,000 times in YouTube.
