Confectionery Firm Nestle Relocates Office Headquarters

shutterstock_87880744Nestle has announced that it is moving its headquarters for the first time in more than 40 years.

The confectionery giant is relocating office space from south London to West Sussex and as part of the business move, 840 of its office-based employees will have to move from Croydon by the end of the year.

The world’s largest food and nutrition company said in a statement that it was difficult to redevelop the current offices known locally as ‘Nestle Tower’ and will now be located 15 miles away at City Place in Gatwick.

Paul Grimwood, chairman and CEO of Nestle UK & Ireland, said: “This move represents an exciting new chapter for Nestle in the UK.”

The multinational firm currently produces products such as Smarties, Nescafe and Kit Kat and it is reported that no redundancies will take place as part of the relocation. Nestle currently employs 7,000 people across the UK and Ireland.

But council leaders from Croydon Council are said to be disappointed by the move. The general manager of Croydon Chamber of Commerce, Matthew Sims, said it was a “blow to the local economy”.

In contrast Gatwick’s local authority, Crawley Borough Council, is reportedly delighted with the move saying it is “absolutely fantastic news.”

BMW Ship Cars For London 2012 Olympics

shutterstock_59062132BMW will reportedly ship thousands of new cars to London for the 2012 Olympics.

As an Official Automotive Partner of the Games, the car manufacturing company will ship 4,000 brand new vehicles to England’s capital to escort VIPs and officials to events.

The fleet of cars being shipping into the UK from factories across the world is said to include more than 3,000 3-Series and 5-Series saloons. The automobiles will be transported over the next six months and are intended for politicians and dignitaries.

However, it is reported that the news doesn’t bode well with the Olympic Games’ green credentials as spectators across the city are being urged to abandon their cars and use public transport.

Jenny Jones, a member of the London Assembly for the Green Party, told the Daily Mail: “Four thousand vehicles seems lunatic when we have such a good public transport system. I can understand a few officials need secure transport but 4,000? Shipping new cars in from Germany is also extremely bad news for the environment.”

It is expected that certain celebrities and officials will be given their own personal chauffeur and BMW during the Olympics

Land Registry Figures Reveal Britain’s Yearly House Trends

house moveThe Land Registry was created in 1862 to register the ownership of land and property in England and Wales and it has revealed Britain’s yearly house trends.

The non-ministerial government department and executive agency has publicised that the most expensive house sold in 2011 went for a staggering £19.25 million. This is in stark contrast to the cheapest purchase which was just £16,000.

The findings show that the most costly property which was flogged was a detached house in the upmarket suburb of Hampstead in North London and the low-priced property was a terraced in Middlesbrough.

According to Land Registry, the region with the biggest house price rise over the year was London at a 1.4% rate. In comparison, the North East of England has seen the biggest drop in house prices at 5.4%.

The yearly house trend analysis exposed that between January and the end of November 2011, the average house price nationwide was £161,727 whereas last year it was £164,916- a fall of over three thousand pounds.
