A Census Bureau analysis in America has shown that the recession is hitting young men the hardest.
The survey, dubbed America’s Families and Living Arrangements 2011, revealed that one in five men aged from the mid-20s to the mid-30s are now back at home living with their parents- or they have never left.
Moving back into mum and dads house can be beneficial because youngsters can save up money towards lease and mortgage deposits. And the report found that 19% of American men aged 25-34 are living in their rents’ homes which is the highest level recorded since 1960, which was just 10.9%. In comparison, only 10% of women in the age group are now living back at home.
According to economists, the ‘staggering statistic’ is further fuelled by the difficult economy and the demographic group hit the toughest is adolescent men because the country’s job losses are largely male-dominated fields.
In the 2010 Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, it showed that unemployment rate for males aged 25-34 was 12% in contrast to 10% for women. Now experts are warning that the US is in a ‘mancession.’

The London Borough of Lewisham Council is reportedly moving one of its office accommodations to save money.
The local authority is considering relocating out of its present location in the Town Hall on Catford Road and moving the 450 staff to Laurence House across the road.
At the moment around 1,800 employees are spread out across office accommodations Laurence House, the Town Hall, Civic Suite and Town Hall Chambers.
The council is currently trying to save as much cash as possible in an asset rationalisation programme and as a result, the Catford Road building may be shut down.
To run all four buildings on a yearly basis is costing the council about £2.7 million and the council is expected to fork out more than £5 million over the next five years for redecoration and maintenance work.
However, due to government budget cuts the council needs to save £1million and it was recommended to relocate some of the council staff as it will generate annual savings of £870,000.
