Why Have Fewer Americans Moved Home In The Last Year?

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

There was a record-low number of Americans that moved home last year, according to a new US Census Bureau report.

Difficult economic times are reportedly to blame for only 11.6% of people living in the Unites States changing home between 2010 and 2011- the lowest recorded rate since 1948.

Demographers and economists reveal that more and more Americans are staying put and that uncertainty in bad times, with regards to savings, jobs and homeownership means that many citizens are clinging to familiarity and remaining in the residence they already have.

Now industry experts are worried that the lack of removals is affecting the population’s aspirations to have a dream home, get married and have children. Although counter arguments claim that with less migration, people will have more attachment to their communities to invest in time and money.

The US Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey aimed to show how the rate of moving and the likelihood of people moving are changing over time. It found that younger people are moving from rural areas to cities; and that the reason for citizens moving more than 500 miles away was job-related.

The study also revealed that 59% of Americans lived in the state that they were born in and that Louisiana had the highest residence (78.8%). If you, unlike the Americans, want to move across the pond, then use Robinsons International’s expert shipping to USA services.

World’s Most Expensive House: Owners Refuse To Move In

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

The world’s most expensive house is a 27-storey block called Antilia in Mumbai.

But the billion-dollar tower is lying abandoned at night-time because its owners refuse to move in with fears it will bring bad luck.

The property, which cost $1 billion to build, boats three helipads, six car parks, a ballroom, theatre and floating gardens; and it dominates the Mumbai skyline. Built for India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, who ranks as the ninth wealthiest person in the world by Forbes, the home has everything a family could possibly need.

But the clan reportedly won’t stay overnight and haven’t moved in since it was completed last year because it has fallen foul of ‘vastu Shasta’, an obscure Hindu version of feng shui.

Ambani, who is worth $27 billion, and his wife and two children are allegedly concerned that the building doesn’t conform to the ancient Indian architectural principles of ‘vastu Shasta’ and therefore fear the home will curse them of misfortunes.

Dinners and film screenings have taken place at the property so it is not completely being unused, however after every party the owners return to their former home.

The Hindu tradition of vastu Shasta emphasises the importance of facing the rising sun but Antilia is said to not have enough windows on its eastern side, despite the staggering amount of money spent on it.

If you had enough cash to splash out on a dream house such as this, would you hire shipping to India services and move in regardless of the feng shui?
