The BBC To Move More Staff To Salford

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Mark Thompson is expected to announce more job cuts at the BBC with plans to quit its west London home entirely.

The Director-general of the British Broadcasting Corporation is to reveal that it will possibly sell its London home land to Chelsea football club as part of a move that will see more staff relocated to Salford.

The public broadcaster implemented a cost-cutting strategy earlier this year which will see nearly 2,000 jobs cut and many programmes being eliminated to save money.

Several thousand employees based at the London sites, including Thompson himself, will be relocated up north. Many staff has moved to Salford already and it is now the home to Radio 5 Live, Blue Peter and Match of the Day.

The BBC has reportedly had talks about attracting Premier League clubs Chelsea or Queen’s Park Rangers as buyers of the site.

Further predicted plans include shutting down the factual department in BBC Birmingham and that BBC drama could move to Cardiff, where programmes such as Doctor Who are made already. The TV Centre will be vacated by 2015.

Leicestershire County Council Saves £850,000 By Relocating Offices

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Leicestershire County Council has the aim of saving a massive £79 million over the next four years.

And it plans to do so by relocating offices and saving £850,000 per year just by simply moving space.

The local authority in the East Midlands is cutting running costs and improving its services by relocating to other buildings.

The County Council’s office strategy is to have fewer, better quality, more efficient and better used offices.

It has refurbished one space in the town to accommodate more than 100 council staff, to improve services to the public whilst cutting its costs. It’s said to be the future for council services-joining things together to make them more accessible and easier to use.

Now a social services office will also house the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and a day centre.

Of the almost £80 million the council must save over the next four years due to government budget cuts, £57 million of it is coming from simply working more efficiently. They are further saving £2.4 million from a review of ICT, £2 million from a review of communications, and £7 million from a review of management and administration.

The HQ is reportedly turning into a compound that will include laundry services, a coffee stand, a BBQ pit, a two-storey projection screens in the central courtyard and a doctor’s office.

Mark Zuckerberg, the social network’s founder, ambitious plans will result in an army of over 9,000 employees being housed on two separate complexes that are joined by an underground tunnel. This expansion growth represents the fact that the firm has over 750 million members and that Facebook is predicted to see revenue of between 1.2 billion dollars and two billion dollars this year alone.

Specialists have fitted solar panels to parts of the buildings’ roof, although it is understood that regular electricity will be needed to fuel Facebook’s powerful servers.
