Housing Market Difficulty? Entice People with a Robot

Friday, December 24th, 2010

The housing market is extremely tentative at the moment, with house values not increasing and mortgage lending at an all-time low.

It seems one builder has come up with a very unusual technique to lure people into moving home; by giving away a machine.

Airevale Homes Estate Agents in Leeds are handing out a mini robot to anyone who reserves one of the few remaining four-bedroom town houses at the Upper reach development area, in Newlay, Yorkshire.

The machine, which is called ‘Roomba’, is a vacuum cleaner which can work its way round the carpet, avoiding obstacles on its very own.

It uses an infrared bumper so it can go slower when the device senses it is about to run into something or someone, so your couch won’t get marked and the coffee table is unlikely to be banged into.

The contraption normally sells at between £200–400 but is being given away for free.

So for anyone who is taking up on the offer and needs an experienced reputable Removals firm to help them move, visit Robinsons International today at www.robinsons-intl.com.

Model Kate Moss Is In Need Of a Removals Van As She Moves Out Of Her ‘Jinxed’ Home

Friday, December 24th, 2010

Kate Moss has bought a new seven bedroom house in the Highgate area in London, costing around £7.5 million.

The well-known celebrity has moved to another area of the capital after a run of bad luck at her old home in nearby St. John’s Wood.

Her previous home was burgled and then flooded.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “She still never quite felt at home there and called it her ‘jinxed house’.”

The fashion model, which lives with her partner Jamie Hince and her eight-year-old daughter Lila, was apparently encouraged to move to the area by Jude Law and Sienna Miller, who moved there from north London’s Primrose Hill.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: “They have described it as the new Primrose Hill.”

Kate’s old house is currently on the market for £10 million pounds, £2 million pounds more than what she paid when she bought it in 2007.

It has also been reported she and Jamie have been looking at buying a seaside property in Britain with a view to turning it into a luxury guesthouse for their friends, and have checked out places in Cornwall and Devon on the country’s South West Coast.

Mayor Boris Johnson Breaches Gypsy and Traveller Human Rights

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Travellers' caravan siteMayor Boris Johnson is being investigated by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) over whether he has breached race, equalities and human rights legislation, after he decided to scrap targets for gypsy and traveller pitches in London.

Labour Assembly member Jennette Arnold has asked the Commission to carry out an inspection following Johnson lowering the number of pitches to 238 and then dropping it altogether.

The Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Needs Assessment that took place in 2008 found that 811 additional grounds were needed across London for the estimated 20,000 gypsies and travellers in London.

The Labour Assembly member has written to the EHRC indicating that Boris has broken the law and how the removal of targets has potentially discriminated against London gypsies and the traveller community.

Jennette Arnold, who worked with the community 20 years ago, said: “Gypsies and travellers are a legally recognised ethnic group and the Mayor has a legal duty to have regard to their needs. His failure to stand by the findings of the needs assessment in my view amounts to unlawful discrimination.”

The letter states: “Removing the pitch targets applied to London Boroughs for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation may amount in practice to discrimination against the Gypsy and Traveller community. It could have the effect of reducing the provision of pitches made available to them by the London Boroughs, or lead to other unforeseen discrimination taking place.”

The number of terrains in London has fallen by 14 per cent in the last 14 years, with some boroughs, such as Barnet, Havering and Enfield, having zero authorised at all.
