Most Brits choose Queensland when moving to Australia

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

New figures have shown the sandy beaches and blue skies of Queensland are luring more expats than anywhere else in Australia.

One-fifth of all those who emigrate to Australia now settle in Queensland, and the trend is likely to continue.

Out of the total Australian immigration figures, 50,000 immigrants now settle in Queensland each year.

Most of these international movers are skilled workers, but there has also been a record 25 per cent increase in overseas students on an Australian Student Visa, to 72,500.

Queensland’s biggest source of overseas removals is New Zealand with more than half of all New Zealanders arriving in Australia choosing to settle there, but Britain is Queensland’s second-biggest source with one-fifth of settlers in Queensland Britons with an Australian Visa.

Robinsons wins photography award at PR’s ‘Oscars’

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Removals specialists Robinsons has won a PR industry award for its use of photography to promote a new environmentally-friendly service it launched in 2009.

The company, which has branches throughout the UK, wanted to raise the issue of the amount of unnecessary waste that was generated during an office move and used eye catching photography of the managing director, Anthony Robinson, to secure media coverage.

Working closely with their PR agency, Prova, Robinsons secured a silver award at the Chartered Institute of PR (CIPR) Awards, which were held in Birmingham on Friday 20th November.

Managing director of Robinsons, Anthony Robinson, said: “We put a lot of effort into coming up with a different style of picture that really told a story. The photography worked well and has gained us a lot of positive publicity, which has enabled us to raise the important issue of waste furniture and how companies can reduce the amount of unwanted desks, chairs and equipment that are going to landfill sites.”

Moving in with a difference

Only in America! The start of life in a brand new home wasn’t a moving experience for one US family as their removals company managed to reverse a lorry into their house, causing thousands of pounds’ worth of damage.

“There’s no word to describe it. My son called and said: ‘You better get home. There’s a truck in your living room,’” said homeowner Roger Castell.

The truck left skid marks 200 feet long and wedged itself into the house. To get the truck out, authorities needed to make sure the home would not collapse. A crane was used to lift the truck out of the house and then to hold up a portion of the roof that was resting on the truck.

“It looks like I won’t be home for a while,” Castell said.

To coin a catchy tagline used by a well-known British opticians… “Should have gone to Robinsons.”
